Emily’s “Work”

Emily has been “working” as a model since she was a toddler. Now that so much time has passed, the industry has changed a lot and a lot of it has moved out of our area to New York and LA, so she is working a lot less. (Someday I will do a post on jobs she’s had over the years–it has been really fun for both of us!) But a couple of weeks ago her agent, Marla Dell,  sent us to get more recent headshots done, so off we went. I have taken them myself in the past, but honestly, this photographer is BRILLIANT at styling shoots that her agent will love, as they have been friends for a really long time. In addition, he’s simply amazing with hair and clothing (which I am TERRIBLE at), and of course takes gorgeous images to boot–the perfect guy for the job! By going to him, I am assured of getting shots her agent will adore.

The last time Norbert Brein-Kozakewycz shot Emily was in 2008, so he had no idea how she had changed. But when she got out of the car, he was thrilled to see she was indeed a perfect match for a shoot idea he had, and he had brought along everything he needed for it, just in case. I was SO excited because his set-up was just lovely, AND he was kind enough to allow me to shoot my own images as well. I simply adore watching other photographers work as I learn so much, so this was a huge thrill for me! I also loved it because this was a shoot near and dear to Norbert’s heart, and with it he was able to let his art run free, as opposed to headshots where of course his personal style shines through, but also he needs to remain conscious of what the agent wants. But with a personal shoot, you have no outside expectations to meet, and your creativity can soar.

I think these mirror ones are my favorites. I didn’t get any of these, because I was busy holding up the mirror!

I just love the ethereal softness of his images. They look so vintage and film-like to me. I also love that two photographers taking photos of the same thing will get different results–shows so much about personal style! Here are a few of mine:

And one I took at the end, just because I adored how he did her hair! We need to do braids more often…
